Will sue to avoid goblins

I love Norway, I love old crumbling structures, and I love this guy. This guy refuses to remove a falling-down building on his property because he doesn’t want to offend the Nordlys living there. Where I live, one developer after another illegally removes old, healthy trees and nothing happens. In Norway, "the darkworld spirits said no" is looking to be a worthy plea.
Having read my Scandinavian mythology, I’ve got to say, Mr. CrazyNorge (no relation) may be hedging his bets, but he may, well, he may have read his mythology too. I wouldn’t want to piss off any Nordlys either.
Right–book review back-posting commences now.

Nordlys!? How wonderful! This made my day. I don’t quite know what a nordly is, but I love that he believes in them so much he allows them to dictate his barn maintenance.
I liked the ad for Devold wool underwear.
I’m 1/4 Norwegian.
I probably wouldn’t tear the building down either.
Giggle. Snort.
See, but I live in opposite land from you, where aging hippies decry all change as evil, and therefore the threat of tearing anything down–no matter how hideous or insignificant–is enough reason to have it named a historic landmark. There was an honest-to-god instance of someone who lived in a mid-century catalog home. The original owners had selected a particular treatment to the porch which the current owners felt clashed with the rest of the building style (and rightly so). They wanted to re-do the treatment to change it to a different, more appropriate treatment that was also originally in the same catalog as an option for the same home. There was outcry. Late night board meetings. I believe in the end they were not allowed to make the change. I kid you not. And that’s just one little side story. I don’t even want to talk about the fights over develeopment that go on in our little business district. So, you know, there are degrees.
Oh, and sock yarn mailed today.
There’s a charming lunacy to that and I support it completely – thought I wish my local historic committe would get stuffed, as my neightborhood has all kind of horrible rules about what one cannot do – there seems to be very little that one CAN do – which has lead to dragging of feet and a lack of doing anything at all on my part. So the outside of my house looks a bit like some rather shabbys goblins do indeed live there.
Maybe I ought to look into fixing that finally. It HAS been 5 years……
Well…not being funny the Nordlys might get uppity about the tree thing!
Never annoy the fey, we always leave a small area unploughed for the little folk – just in case. 😉

I think avoiding pissing off darkworld spirits is an excellent defence. But that’s just me.
